(Relaxnews) – The latest series from the creators of “Gossip Girl” will premiere July 24, ABC has announced. Ahead of the launch of its new drama “Black Box” this April, the network has also set season premiere dates for its returning series “Mistresses” and “Rookie Blue.”

Adapted from Lily Koppel’s best-selling novel, published last June, “The Astronaut Wives Club” will revisit the story of the women married to the heroes of the space race in 1960s America.

“Gossip Girl” creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will executive produce “The Astronaut Wives Club.” Joanna Garcia Swisher, who played Ariel in ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” will star in the role of Betty Grissom. The character, who is still struggling to reconnect with her husband following his return from the war, is terrified about what might happen to him as an employee of NASA’s Mercury program.

Known for playing Dr. Jessica Adams in the eighth and final season of “House M.D.,” Odette Annable will play Trudy Cooper, the youngest member of the astronaut wives club, who is herself a pilot. Her personal ambition leads to friction in her marriage and in her relationships with her fellow astronaut wives.

ABC’s new medical drama

From April 24, the new medical drama “Black Box” will take the place of “Scandal” in the Thursday night line-up. The third season of the latter show will end after 18 episodes due to Kerry Washington’s pregnancy.

Produced by “X-Men: First Class” director Bryan Singer and by “The L Word” creator Ilene Chaiken, “Black Box” will focus on a world-renowned neuroscientist who is hiding a big secret from her fiancé: her bipolar disorder.

English actress Kelly Reilly, seen in “Flight” and “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” will star as the protagonist, Elizabeth Black. Vanessa Redgrave (“The Butler”) will play Dr. Hartramph, Elizabeth’s psychiatrist and one of the few who know her secret.

ABC also announced that the second season of “Mistresses,” starring Alyssa Milano, will debut on June 2, and that the fifth season of “Rookie Blue” will premiere on July 17. Finally, the network also said that it will air its new talent-search show “Rising Star,” adapted from the Israeli format of the same name, on June 22.
