Adidas launching world’s first knit soccer shoe
(Relaxnews) – Adidas has crafted a football boot, or soccer cleat, that will undoubtedly excite the sport’s many players and fans. A limited edition, the Adidas Samba Primeknit debuts on March 17 and is to feature an upper “knitted from heel-to-toe” for a “second-skin fit.”
A one-piece knit upper design promises a whole new level of comfort and flexibility thanks in part to high-precision coating on each strand of yarn. In other words, water resistance is guaranteed no matter how muddy, wet and rough playing conditions are.
Other production highlights include the one-layer upper crafted with “zones” catering to performance needs. The boot is said to be the most sustainable footwear Adidas has created.
The German brand’s interest in knit materials is not new: in early 2013 it followed in the steps of Nike Flyknit in launching its first all-knit running shoe.
It is the latest brand to try its hand at a better-performing football shoe based on this idea of “second skin.” In January Puma launched its evoPOWER, a shoe inspired by the feeling of being barefoot.
The footwear is available March 17 at selected adidas outlets, associated stockists and through adidas.com/football.
