(Relaxnews) – Barbra Streisand is set to direct a biopic of Russian empress Catherine the Great, reports Hollywood Reporter.

Known as one of history’s most powerful women, Catherine the Great ruled Russia between 1762 and 1796 after the assassination of her husband. Streisind’s film will focus on the younger Catherine’s marriage and her subsequent rise to power.

The film is to be produced by “Life of Pi” producer Gil Netter, with the script already written by Kristina Lauren Anderson, which took the top spot on the 2014 Black List for best unproduced screenplays.

The film would be Streisand’s fourth as director, having previously directed 1983’s “Yentl,” “Prince of Tides” (1991) and “The Mirror Has Two Faces” (1996). Together her previous three films have recieved a total of 14 Oscar nominations.
