(Relaxnews) – An American chef whose mastery of bistro cuisine enabled her to open a Parisian outpost of her New York ‘gastrotheque’ Buvette to critical acclaim shares her secrets to recreating the same rustic but chic fare at home in her upcoming cookbook.

Named after chef Jody Williams’s New York and Paris restaurants, the 304-page title “Buvette: The Pleasure of Good Food” features recipes for traditional French dishes like ratatouille and tarte tatin (apple tart), and hearty, family-friendly dishes like roasted heirloom apples stuffed with pork sausage, ricotta fritters and shaved Brussels sprouts with Pecorino and walnuts.

In addition to recipes, the book also includes sidebars on everything from how to remove stains to how to dress up simple foods by serving ice cream, for instance, in a teacup, or serving chocolate mousse in a silver tablespoon.

The book also includes a forward by celebrity chef Mario Batali.

Williams trained with Thomas Keller at Rakel and Lidia Bastianich at Felidia and is known among American audiences for her appearances as a judge on the Food Network show “Chopped.”

She opened Buvette in 2011 in the West Village as a European-style cafe and wine bar where diners can tuck into French classics like cassoulet, mussels, steak tartare and coq au vin.

The francophile then did the unthinkable, transplanting her New York restaurant to the birthplace of her practiced cuisine by opening a Buvette outpost in the city’s trendy Pigalle area in the 9th arrondissement to wide acclaim.

“Buvette: The Pleasure of Good Food” is published by Grand Central Life & Style and is set to hit store shelves April 22 at a suggested retail price of $30 USD.
