(Relaxnews) – The two-time Ballon d’Or winner is the new face of the famous Swiss watch brand, the first time the role has fallen to a soccer player.

The captain of the Portuguese national football team, one of the key talents in the Real Madrid starting line-up, and the two-time winner of the sport’s biggest individual prize, the Ballon d’Or, Ronaldo can now add another string to his bow. The 29-year-old has been named as the latest face of Tag Heuer.

Ronaldo joins the company’s team of brand ambassadors from the worlds of sports and entertainment including Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio, WTA tennis champion Maria Sharapova, Formula One World Champion Jenson Button, World Rally Champion Sébastien Ogier and the entire crew of 2013 America’s Cup winner Oracle Team USA.

“TAG Heuer is by far the best at what it does,” said Cristiano Ronaldo, “and has been for more than 150 years… It is a great honor to be a part of such a powerful and pioneering legacy.”

Over the years Ronaldo has also represented Emporio Armani, Nike and Coca-Cola, while previous faces of the brand include Brad Pitt and Uma Thurman, Tiger Woods, and Fernando Alonso. While Tag Heuer has previously had a strong presence in motorsport, sailing and skiing (they started timing ski events in 1928), this is the first time the brand has entered the world of soccer.
