‘Divergent’ dominates worldwide box office

(Relaxnews) – The feature starring Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet has risen to the top spot in the global box office, grossing $57.7 million across six territories for the weekend up to March 23, according to Rentrak.

Adapted from Veronica Roth’s young adult fiction trilogy, “Divergent” tells the story of Tris, who refuses to submit to the restrictions imposed by a totalitarian government in the distant future.

The feature bumped “Need For Speed” into second place. The street racing film took in $36.98 million from theaters in 56 territories.

In third place, “300: The Rise of an Empire” grossed $29.67 million this weekend. The film about the epic battle was just ahead of “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” and “Muppets Most Wanted” in the ranking established by Rentrak.
