(Relaxnews) – Amy Adams (“American Hustle”) and Emily Blunt (“Looper”) are in line to join the next two films from Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve.

Villeneuve won an Academy Award nomination in the Best Foreign Language category for “Incendies” and went on to direct the well-received 2013 Jake Gyllenhaal double-header of “Prisoners” and “Enemy.”

So it is that Adams has entered talks to take the lead role in “Story of Your Life,” a sci-fi thriller based on a short story by award-winning American writer Ted Chiang, reports Deadline.

The original plot sees Dr. Louise Banks, a linguistic expert, contacted by the military as alien spacecraft descend upon the planet; Banks has to determine whether the new arrivals are hostile or not and, in doing so, becomes privy to the aliens’ plans.

Blunt, for her part, is to take on the role of a female police officer in “Sicario,” according to Variety.

In pursuing a big time drug kingpin, Blunt’s character ends up crossing the US-Mexico border along with two mercs that are also on the job. In doing so, the three lose protections they might otherwise have been accustomed to back home.

“Sicario” is to begin shooting later this year, with “Story of Your Life” due to film early in 2015.
