(Relaxnews) – Soccer star James Rodriguez, who took home the Golden Boot at the World Cup, is once again the talk of social media after being recruited by Real Madrid.

The Colombian midfielder scored a total of six goals and was responsible for two assists throughout the World Cup, earning the Golden Boot as the tournament’s highest scorer. Previously unknown to many soccer fans around the world, he was a fixture on social media during his star turn at the World Cup.

Last week it was announced that Rodriguez had been signed to Real Madrid, and media sources picking up on a report from Spanish newspaper Sport reported that the team had sold 345,000 James Rodriguez shirts in the 48 hours after he signed to the team.

The buzz continued over onto social media. On Facebook, the athlete was talked about by nearly 7.2 million people, and he got 1.96 million likes over the course of the week. Among his posts were an announcement of the signing and photos of him wearing his new jersey.
