(Relaxnews) – Ahead of the premiere of its new vampire-themed thriller on July 13, FX has finally released a longer promo video offering some insight into the show’s plot.

After weeks of making do with nothing but a few very mysterious teasers, devoted fans of Guillermo del Toro can finally view a longer trailer for “The Strain.” And the new video indicates that the atmosphere of the drama will be every bit as dark and strange as the filmmaker’s movies.

TV audiences still have over a month to go before they can watch the first episode of “The Strain,” which is adapted from the eponymous book trilogy by the Mexican director.

“The Strain” follows Eph, a scientist specialized in epidemics and biological attacks, who is called in to investigate the death of passengers on a flight landing in New York. To solve the mystery, Eph will call upon Abraham, a former professor and a Holocaust survivor. Together, they reach the alarming conclusion that vampires are attempting to exterminate the human race.

Corey Stoll (“House of Cards”), David Bradley (“Harry Potter”), Regina King (“24,” “The Big Bang Theory”), Kevin Durand (“Noah”), Sean Astin (“Lord of the Rings”) and Mia Maestro (“Twilight”) are cast in this series created by del Toro alongside Chuck Hogan, author of the novel “Prince of Thieves,” which inspired Ben Affleck’s “The Town.”
