Young actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith is willing to do everything in her power to support the campaign of her movie, “Transit,” to the 68th Academy Awards.

The Cinemalaya movie is the country’s entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 2014 Oscars, which will be held on March 2.

With over 70 countries hoping to land a nomination, Curtis-Smith said she and the entire “Transit” team vowed to do their part to boost the movie’s chances to clinch a nomination.

“I am praying. We are in good hands. We know naman na the movie will be taken care of in terms of distribution in the States so happy kami. It’s a long shot to call but I’m hoping to make it at least sa shortlist,” she said.

If ever “Transit” becomes the country’s first Oscar nominee, Curtis-Smith said she will definitely attend the awards ceremony. “I’ll be there in a second. I will not miss it for my life,” she said.

While she cannot be with film producer Paul Soriano and director Hannah Espia at the film’s international screenings, Curtis-Smith said she will use social media to the best she can to promote the film.

“They went to Tokyo and they went to Hong Kong also. Gusto ko pumunta kaso I have work here also. Pero through online, tweets, Instagram, [I want to help] as much as I can for now. But when the time comes, if we can fly over to Palm Springs for the festival there, I would love to,” she said.

Set in Herzliya, Israel, “Transit” tells the story of Moises (Ping Medina) and Janet (Irma Adlawan), two overseas Filipinos who are forced to hide their respective children (Marc Justine Alvarez and Curtis-Smith) upon learning of the government’s plan to deport children of foreign workers.

The film, which competed in the New Breed category of the 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival early this year, won several major awards including Best Film and citations for direction, actress and supporting actress. (MNS)
