(Relaxnews) – The Hollywood star plays a character trying to get his hands on the Nazis’ gold in this adventure comedy.

Lionsgate has announced that director David Koepp began shooting “Mortdecai” with Johnny Depp on October 21 in London. Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn and Paul Bettany will also be in the cast of this adaptation of Kyril Bonfiglioli’s “Charlie Mortdecai” series of novels.

After his larger-than-life performances as Jack Sparrow, Ed Wood and Willy Wonka, to name a few, Depp will play Charlie Mortdecai, a slightly roguish British art dealer with a taste for fine wines and spirits.

The character will go up against Russian spies, British double agents, terrorists and even his own seductive wife in order to get his hands on a recently stolen painting that contains the access codes to a consequential Nazi bank account. “Mortdecai,” if successful, will be the first in a series of films on the character.
