(Relaxnews) – A comedy series created as a sequel to “Marley & Me,” the film starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, has landed at NBC. The pilot ordered by the network will be written by former “Sex and the City” screenwriter Jenny Bicks.

Released in December 2008, “Marley & Me” depicts the ups and downs of John and Jenny Grogan, a young couple who decide to adopt a dog to prepare for parenthood. They choose Marley, a Labrador puppy that proves to be particularly difficult to train.

The television sequel will revisit the film’s characters a few years after their loyal companion has died. John and Jenny move back to Florida with their three children, now aged 16, 13 and 6. When a stray puppy turns up on their doorstep, they have no choice but to take him in, and he turns out to be just as incorrigible and endearing as their first dog.

“Marley & Me” joins a rapidly expanding list of TV projects inspired by the big screen. Currently, series based on “Minority Report,” “Rush Hour” “Big” and “The Illusionist” are in the works at various networks.
