(Relaxnews) – The at-home version of a culinary encyclopedia that’s been described as the “cookbook to end all cookbooks” has been released as an e-book that includes features like yield conversions, video tutorials and more than 1,680 photos.

It’s the latest extension for “Modernist Cuisine,” a magnum opus which was originally released in 2011 as a 2,438-page, six-volume set, hailed as “the most important book in the culinary arts since Escoffier.”

Last year, the encyclopedia, penned by former Microsoft Chief Technology Officer Nathan Myhrvold, was rewritten as a more approachable and accessible cookery book for the home chef as “Modernist Cuisine at Home.”

This week, the same book was released in a digital format in collaboration with Inkling. The tablet version features 1,683 photos — 359 of which are new — 416 recipes and 37 technical videos that teach users how to sear steak with a blowtorch, cook salmon sous-vide in the sink, or how to deep fry foods — without a deep fryer.

The app is downloadable from the Apple store for $80 or directly from Inkling.com, while individual chapters are also available for $5.

The next hotly anticipated cookery series to rival the buzz of “Modernist Cuisine” is the seven-volume opus “elBulli 2005-2011.” Each volume will chronicle every culinary season at chef Ferran Adria’s mythically famous and now-shuttered restaurant El Bulli in Spain. The series is due to be released in March 2014.
