Join USC Dornsife Sociology Professor Rhacel Salazar Parrenas for a talk that attempts to complicate our understanding of human trafficking and forced labor in the 21st century by examining the labor and migration of the largest group of migrant women workers in the world today: Filipina domestic workers. Using interviews collected with Filipino domestic workers in Italy, Denmark and the United Arab Emirates, will explore our understanding of the current status of contract labor, and establishes that as contract workers Filipino domestic workers are neither slaves nor free but instead experience migration from a position of indentured mobility.
