(Relaxnews) – The ACE 16+ Purecontrol is the world’s first lace-free professional football boot.

Teased towards the end of 2015 via social media, the footwear is now official and will be going on limited sale on January 23 at flagship Adidas stores in cities within soccer’s heartland — Marseille, Barcelona, London, Manchester and Paris.

Anything but a gimmick, the ACE 16+ Purecontrol took years to develop with help from some of the world’s best players including German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil, and the result is a shoe that is more supportive and better fitting than a traditional football boot and one that, because it has no laces, provides the largest possible surface area for connecting with the ball.

“My whole career I have tried to minimize the impact of laces on my strike and ball control,” said Ozil. “I revealed to Adidas in 2014 that in the changing room I knot the laces over and over again and then tuck in the ends, that way they do not interfere with my touch. When they came to me last year with the laceless boots, it was like they have created my dream product. I cannot wait to wear them on the pitch”.
