Neymar, James Rodriguez remain atop Starcount’s global social media chart

(Relaxnews) – In a final burst of World Cup fever across social networks, Colombian player and Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez remained high atop the Starcount global social media chart for the week of July 7-13, while Brazilian star player Neymar continued to dominate the chart.

James Rodriguez had been widely expected to win the Golden Boot, an award that honors the top scorer in the World Cup. The footballer scored a total of six goals and was responsible for two assists. With that victory Rodriguez saw his star rise: he gained 3.2 million new Facebook likes over the past week and was talked about by more than 8.9 million on the site. Over on Twitter he earned 374,127 new followers while on Instagram his follower count rose by 649,273.

Another top scorer on social media was Golden Ball winner Leo Messi., who led Argentina to the World Cup final. While the team ultimately lost to Germany, Messi was named best player of the tournament. On social media he pulled in two million Facebook likes.

Although star Brazilian player Neymar was forced to leave the tournament a week earlier do to a fractured vertebra, he remained the most popular player across social media. On Facebook he earned 3.1 million likes and was talked about by 9.5 million, while he added 525,685 new Twitter followers and 757,561 new fans on Instagram.
