(Relaxnews) – The American actress has been transformed into a rather convincing witch on the set of this adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, in production by Disney.

In the film, which, like the original musical, brings together characters from a number of different fairy tales, Meryl Streep plays an evil witch, one of the dangers lurking in the woods. The plot of “Into the Woods” revolves around a baker and his wife who journey through the woods in a quest to lift the curse that prevents them from having a child.

Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine and James Corden are also taking part in the film, scheduled to hit theaters in time for the 2014 Christmas season. The film will be directed by Rob Marshall, who helmed the film adaptation of “Chicago” in addition to “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

Disney announced that the feature will include songs from Stephen Sondheim’s original Broadway musical in addition to a few new songs written for the occasion by the famous composer.
