(Relaxnews) – French design brand Lexon has launched a contemporary six-piece stationery collection by London-based designer Samuel Wilkinson called Babylon.

The range, which went on show during the recent Maison&Objet in Paris, consists of a pen, alarm clock, stapler, pen cup, tape dispenser and scissors. Each piece has been fabricated in a soft-touch matte finish made from thick injection-molded ABS, a strong and resistant plastic.

The tactile material choice means that each item in the playful collection is both durable and recyclable. The range has been based on a vibrant color palette of bold hues.

“I wanted to create an aesthetic, tactile set of objects that work as well in the office as in the home,” explains Wilkinson. “Each object has its own character and individuality but still looks coherent in a group.”

The inspiration for the collection came from rock strata in the canyons of Arizona. “The soft forms of the sandstone are split by the rock layers that sweep around the mounds producing a really beautiful effect,” says Wilkinson.

The design team analyzed each of the functions of the pieces, simplifying each design as much as possible and keeping the products tactile and efficient. Wilkinson said: “This geometric treatment gives each object a level of complexity while still keeping them understandable, and more importantly, still ergonomic so they feel great in the hand.”
