Celebrity life is not all glitz and glam.

As examples: While we enjoy our teleseryes in the comfort of our homes, our favorite stars stay up late taping the next episodes. Or while we listen to music just by clicking on “Play,” the recording artists are promoting the album, recording new songs, and writing their next hits.

More often than not, this kind of lifestyle takes a toll on their bodies.

Despite his busy schedule, Richard Yap makes sure he stays healthy by exercising regularly.

Whenever schedule permits, he works out at the gym. His workout routine includes lifting weights and cardio exercises.

Even at home, he makes it a point not to just sit around. “Sometimes I do push ups while watching TV… you can also plank, do crunches,” he told Bulletin Entertainment.

Richard takes every opportunity he can to work his muscles.

“When you’re in an office building and there’s an elevator and there’s so many people waiting outside the lobby, there’s no better reason for you to exercise and go up the stairs. Sometimes just walking the dog is exercising also,” he said, “You can still do an easy routine and get a lot of results.”

The key, he said, is goal-setting.

“Last year, I worked hard to keep my weight down so I want to continue doing that. I don’t want to go back to being inactive or gaining weight again,” he said. “I was buying shirts in large sizes (then); now I’m back to buying small to medium sizes. It really takes a lot of work. You really have to make it a way of life.”

Indeed, fitness is not achieved overnight. Yet while it takes time and hard work, Richard remains motivated as he needs to be healthy “for the people we care about.”

But exercise is not enough.

“You really have to take a lot of power naps because sleep is important,” Richard added, noting it pays to listen to your body. “If your body can’t take the exercises that you do in the gym, you can just lay low for a while and do just walking and other exercises.”

Richard encourages Pinoys to start living healthy as many of us have become sedentary.

“With the rise of computers and social media, people just sit most of the time… a lot of us don’t exercise anymore,” he said.

Richard is busy with “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” where he plays the antagonist Philip Tang opposite Coco Martin’s Cardo.

He will appear as guest in the The CompanY’s Valentine’s Day concert “Music And Memories” at the Palacio de Maynila, 7 p.m. (MNS)
