(Relaxnews) – A billion people are expected to watch the New Year’s countdown from New York’s Times Square live on the web. And no fewer than one million people are expected to be attending the event onsite in the city.

Starting at 6 PM (local time), Toshiba will be broadcasting live or pre-recorded videos featuring stars like Miley Cyrus and Macklemore across seven screens set up on the iconic square. The broadcasts, which will go until quarter after midnight, will also include a special event in association with NASA.

And of course 60 seconds before 2014 arrives, a countdown featuring the famous Ball Drop will begin. A special iOS and Android application has been launched to follow the progress of the huge crystal ball as it descends down One Times Square.

Meanwhile, New Year festivities kick off on the morning of the 31, as the main Toshiba Vision screen will display special “Countdown to 2014” programming featuring live streamed footage from New Year’s celebrations in 16 cities around the world, starting with Tokyo at 9:59 AM local time.
