(Relaxnews) – Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm have been recast as part of a new generation of superheros in 2016’s next “X-Men” film.

Director Bryan Singer broke the news on Twitter, introducing Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp in key roles.

Turner will play telepath Jean Grey aka Phoenix (previously Famke Janssen), Sheridan the conventional group leader Scott Summers aka Cyclops (was James Marsden), and Shipp the weather-manipulating Ororo Munroe aka Storm (was Halle Berry).

The three heroes were among those whose younger selves were absent from last year’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” a film that saw several actors from 2011 prequel “X-Men: First Class” present — James McAvoy, Nicolas Hoult, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence — while Hugh Jackman as Wolverine provides continuity throughout the franchise.

As newcomers to the X-Men roles, Turner (18) has played Sansa Stark in “Game of Thrones,” Tye Sheridan (18) starred opposite Matthew McConaughey in “Mud,” and Shipp (23) is perhaps best known as K.T. Rush in season three of Nickelodeon’s “House of Anubis.”

Oscar Isaac is another new face already installed, as supervillain Apocalypse who threatens to consume the world with harmful ambition. The movie is expected May 2016; more names are anticipated before filming starts in April.
